Dr. Maria Tayyab Baig
Dr. Maria Tayyab Baig is an Assistant Professor at the Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Laboratory, Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB), University of the Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan. She began her career at CEMB in 2008 as a Research Officer after completing her B.Sc. (Hons.) in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics from the University of the Punjab in 2007. Over the years, she has contributed significantly to stem cell research and regenerative medicine, with a particular focus on the development of translational therapies for chronic diseases.
She earned her M.Phil. in Molecular Biology from CEMB in 2015 with a perfect CGPA of 4.00/4.00, receiving Gold Medals for outstanding academic achievement. She subsequently completed her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology at CEMB in 2022, where her research focused on the therapeutic potential of mesenchymal stem cells for liver diseases.
Dr. Baig's research interests include stem cell biology, regenerative medicine, and the development of stem cell-based therapies for liver fibrosis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. She has established protocols for the isolation and characterization of adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADSCs) and possesses extensive expertise in molecular and cellular techniques, including qRT-PCR, Western blotting, ELISA, immunostaining, and cell-based functional assays. Her research aims to translate laboratory discoveries into effective regenerative therapies, advancing the field of regenerative medicine and improving outcomes for patients with chronic liver diseases.
